How to change bad habits

Changing a habit in my opinion is always a hard thing to do.
The bad habit can't be changed right away. It should be replaced by another good habit. So, let's say you eat a lot of laddus which is bad for health then, you should replace it by another habit like when you have the urge to eat them find out the actual time and place. Now, do something else like going do there and talking to others at that time or by replacing it with eating something else other than laddus like idly or something like that.
